I probably wasn’t a lot of help, but I so enjoyed being outside with my mother, and learning about growing flowers. Her favorites were roses and azaleas, and she also planted marigolds, coleus, and many other annuals.

If the weather was warm, then I was outside. I learned so much about plants and insects, birds, and all other creatures that inhabit our world.

My first favorite potted plant was cactus. There was something magical about caring for my own plants and seeing how they beautify our inside spaces.
